Job summary

Hartford HealthCare’s Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT seeks a Chaplain to assess and address spiritual needs of patients, families and staff. The role involves coordinating care, providing counseling, and serving as the church’s representative to hospital teams and external faith communities.

The position requires a Master’s degree in a related field, plus pastoral care experience; Clinical Pastoral Education and ordination are preferred for this role.

Qualifications

• Master degree from an accredited institution in a related field; Master of Divinity or Master of Theology preferred.
• One year of chaplain experience in a recognized setting; three years in pastoral care preferred, with hospital experience favored.
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required; ordained/commissioned for ministry and in good standing preferred; board certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, coordinate and provide care and counseling for patients, families, staff and volunteers.
• Serve as the hospital's representative to the religious community and other entities.
• Provide 24-hour emergency chaplaincy coverage, personally or via staff/volunteer clergy.
• Assist in education and consultations for patients and staff as needed.
• Maintain professional documentation and contribute to care planning.
