Job summary

Ascension Health’s Ascension St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, is seeking an adult‑focused Palliative Care Physician to join an employed inpatient team with strong referral support. The schedule is flexible (5–8 hour days or 4–10 hour days) with no nights; call is 1 night/week and 1 weekend/month, providing comprehensive symptom management and coordinated care.

Requirements include MD/DO, state licensure and DEA, and Board Certified or Board Eligible in Palliative Care.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO credentialed from medical licensing board.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Palliative Care.
  • Active Indiana medical license or eligibility.
  • DEA registration required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and lead patient rounds.
  • Manage complex pain and distressing symptoms with holistic support.
  • Develop discharge and transition plans including hospice when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an Adult focused Palliative Care Physician to join an employed position within a busy, well-respected practice, supported by a strong referral base and the full resources of a robust health system network.

  • Manage complex pain and distressing symptoms, providing comprehensive psychosocial and spiritual support to elevate the patient's and family's quality of life.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure seamless coordination and holistic care throughout the patient's illness journey.
  • Provide timely inpatient consultation services and lead patient rounds, defining clear goals of care to guide critical clinical decision-making.
  • Develop proactive and personalized discharge and transition plans (including hospice), ensuring continuity of evidence-based medical practice.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
