Qualifications

• Licensed as a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy in California without restriction or disciplinary action.
• Maintains controlled substances registration with state and federal authorities.
• Not excluded from Medicare program; PECOS enrolled as of May 1, 2024.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall medical direction for hospice program and supervise physician services.
• Act as liaison and medical resource for the interdisciplinary group and referrals.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and review policies for patient care, education, and emergency procedures.
• Attend interdisciplinary group meetings and participate in quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
• Provide training on medical aspects of end-of-life care to physicians, staff, and volunteers.
• Maintain documentation in clinical records and certify terminal illness where appropriate.
• Ensure 24-hour physician availability to meet medical needs of hospice patients.
