Job summary

Community Hospice & Health Services in Modesto, CA seeks an experienced Medical Director to lead medical care for hospice patients and supervise an interdisciplinary team. The role requires California medical licensure (MD/DO) with hospice specialty certification and strong leadership.

You will coordinate clinical protocols, engage with referring partners, and oversee licensing and quality programs while supporting a compassionate, patient-centered mission.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with an active California license and primary certification in internal medicine or another specialty.
• 2+ years of experience in hospice care.
• Executive leadership management experience.
• Knowledge of California-specific regulations and Medicare CoPs.
• Board certified in hospice and palliative care from ABIM, AAHPM or HMDC, but eligible for future certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide general management of medical care for hospice patients and oversee the interdisciplinary team.
• Supervise Associate Medical Directors, NPs and PAs within approved budgets.
• Ensure medical documentation, certification, and recertification meet industry standards and deadlines.
• Engage with Executive Committee on Patient Care to drive agency performance.
• Determine and certify patient eligibility for hospice care with attending physicians.
• Lead quality initiatives and participate in CMS-compliant programs.
• Attend senior leadership, strategic planning and board meetings as requested.
• Collaborate with Finance on coding, billing and patient care documentation.
