Job summary

Suncrest Hospice in Virginia Beach is seeking a Chaplain to provide spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and families across diverse faiths while aligning with the hospice mission.

You will participate in interdisciplinary teams, attend care conferences, and help maintain care records. The role includes funeral services when requested and supervising spiritual care volunteers, with a focus on quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Seminary/theology degree or pastoral care degree or equivalent experience; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 3 units of CPE; MDiv or Masters in Theology required.
• One year chaplain experience preferred.
• Experience working with death and dying and supporting families.
• Ability to work as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Comfort in an inter-faith setting.
• Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and families.
• Deliver compassionate services to diverse faiths; reflect hospice mission.
• Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings.
• Maintain records of spiritual care services for QA and program development.
• Provide funeral or memorial services as requested.
• Assist with supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned.
• Actively participate in quality improvement teams.

Education

Details

The Chaplain provides spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and their families. They provide compassionate services to a diverse population encompassing all faiths that are represented by patients, families, and team members, while at the same time, reflecting the mission and philosophy of Suncrest.

Qualifications

• Certificate of graduation from an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv or equivalent theological degree), or a degree in pastoral care, or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
• One year of chaplain experience preferred
• Experience working with death and the dying, as it relates to patients and their families/caregivers;
• Ability to work as a contributing member of interdisciplinary group
• Comfort level in inter-faith setting
• Minimum of 3 units of CPE; and MDiv or Masters in Theology required.
• Assesses spiritual needs of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and ensures that appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner;
• Serves as liaison and support to community chaplains and spiritual counselors;
• Maintains accurate records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance, program development, and policies and procedures review and revision;
• Attends patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings, providing consultation, education, and support
• Provides for funeral or memorial services for patients as requested;
• Assists with the supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned to patients/families/caregivers;
• Actively participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
