Job summary

Suncrest Hospice in Des Peres, Missouri is seeking a full-time Chaplain with hospice experience to provide compassionate spiritual care to patients and families across faiths as part of an interdisciplinary team. You will assess needs, coordinate resources, and support staff while upholding Suncrest's CHAP-certified standards.

The role requires an accredited seminary degree (BD/MDiv or equivalent), 3 CPE units, and strong collaboration, with driving required.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited seminary or school of theology (BD, MDiv or equivalent).
  • One year of chaplain experience preferred.
  • Experience with death and dying in patient/family care requested.
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Comfort level in inter-faith setting.
  • Minimum of 3 CPE units; MDiv or Masters in Theology required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual support and resources to patients and families.
  • Serve diverse faiths and reflect Suncrest's mission in care delivery.
  • Assess spiritual needs and ensure timely services are rendered.
  • Liaise with community chaplains and spiritual counselors.
  • Maintain accurate records of spiritual care services for QA.
  • Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Provide funeral or memorial services when requested.
  • Assist supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned.
  • Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement teams.

The Chaplain provides spiritual support, guidance, and resources to patients and their families. They provide compassionate services to a diverse population encompassing all faiths that are represented by patients, families, and team members, while at the same time, reflecting the mission and philosophy of Suncrest.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with death and the dying, as it relates to patients and their families/caregivers;
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of interdisciplinary group

  • Minimum of 3 units of CPE; and MDiv or Masters in Theology required.
  • Assesses spiritual needs of patients and families/caregivers in the hospice program and ensures that appropriate services are rendered in a timely manner;
  • Serves as liaison and support to community chaplains and spiritual counselors;
  • Maintains accurate records of spiritual care services utilization and related activities for quality assurance, program development, and policies and procedures review and revision;
  • Attends patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings, providing consultation, education, and support
  • Provides for funeral or memorial services for patients as requested;
  • Assists with the supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned to patients/families/caregivers;
  • Actively participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
  • Must be willing to drive with reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance
