Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MA, MDiv) in religious studies, theology, divinity or related field
  • Two CPE units; five CPE units preferred
  • In good standing with endorsement by the appropriate church or faith authority
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong background in functional theology and pastoral application
  • Excellent communication skills with knowledge of counseling techniques
  • Ability to address diverse cultural, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds
  • Experience ministering to the dying and grieving families
  • Must be able to travel throughout the Advocate Aurora service area and on-call rotation
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend during the workday
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime
  • Visits to private residences may be challenging for some
  • Exposure to hazards; PPE required as needed
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job

Job description

  • Provide comprehensive holistic spiritual care to patients, families, and healthcare staff, including counseling, crisis response, and sacramental support
  • Assist during emergencies and guide families through illness and end-of-life processes
  • Promote patient safety
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in care planning, education, and ethical discussions
  • Support staff through consultations and training
  • Contribute to departmental operations, mentoring, and community outreach
  • Uphold organizational values and maintain active involvement in the faith community
  • Participate in the QA/CQI process for Advocate Hospice
  • Work Monday through Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with required on-call and weekend rotation
  • Travel to surrounding communities on the southeast side of Chicago and visit patients in private residences
  • Provide in-home hospice care focused on comfort, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support
Requirements
  • At least Two (2) units of CPE, accredited by ACPE; NACC units may be considered
  • 5 CPE units preferred
  • In good standing with continued endorsement by the appropriate authority of his/her church, faith group or religious institute
  • A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles
  • Completed masters degree (MA, MDiv) in religious studies, theology, divinity or related field
  • Strong background in functional theology and ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals and families
  • Excellent communication skills with knowledge of counseling techniques
  • Ability to identify clients’ needs considering cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and other diverse backgrounds
  • Experience and compassion in ministering to those who are dying and their grieving families
  • Must be able to travel throughout the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather and on all types of roads
  • Availability and transportation to serve on-call rotation as needed
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed
  • Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities
  • Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body-fluid hazards; PPE, protective clothing and equipment required as needed
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
