Job summary

Advocate Health at Home is seeking a Chaplain to provide comprehensive spiritual care to patients, families, and healthcare staff within the hospice program. The role emphasizes counseling, crisis response, and sacramental support in a compassionate, culturally aware manner.

You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, accompany families through end‑of‑life processes, and contribute to education and ethical discussions while supporting staff and the faith community.

Qualifications

• Completed masters degree (MA, MDiv) in religious studies, theology, divinity or related field.
• A strong background in functional theology and the ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals and families.
• Excellent communication skills with knowledge of counseling techniques.
• Ability to identify clients’ needs with consideration to cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and other diverse backgrounds.
• Experience and compassion in ministering to those who are dying and their grieving families.

• Assist during emergencies, guides families through illness and end‑of‑life processes and promote patient safety.

• Contributes to departmental operations, mentoring, and community outreach while upholding organizational values and maintaining active involvement in their faith community.
• Participates in the QA/CQI process for Advocate Hospice.

Pay Range

$28.55 - $42.85

We’re Looking For

Licensure or Certifications

• At least Two (2) units of CPE, accredited by ACPE; NACC units may be considered. 5 units preferred.
• In good standing with continued endorsement by the appropriate authority of his/her church, faith group or religious institute
• A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

As a Chaplain You Will

What You’ll Do

• Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday position 8-5 PM, On call and Weekend Rotation is required, travel to all surrounding areas communities of Christ Hospital Southeast side of Chicago, Illinois
• Must be able to travel to all areas within the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather on all types of roads. Exposed to widely varying social and environmental conditions in patient’s neighborhoods and homes.
• Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities.
• Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

• May be exposed to blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Exposed to widely varying social and environmental conditions in patient’s neighborhoods and homes.
• Availability and transportation to serve on-call rotation as needed. Must be able to travel to all areas within the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather on all types of roads.
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday.
• Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed. Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities.
• Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear PPE, protective clothing and equipment as needed.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
