Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a chaplain to provide comprehensive spiritual care for hospice patients, families, and staff in the Sheboygan and Manitowoc service areas. The role requires multi-faith sensitivity, crisis support, and collaboration with care teams to align with patient goals.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree required in religious-focused field.

Licensure or Certifications
  • At least Two (2) units of CPE, accredited by ACPE; NACC units may be considered. 5 units preferred.
  • In good standing with continued endorsement by the appropriate authority of his/her church, faith group or religious institute
  • A valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Degrees/Experience
  • Completed graduate degree (MA, MDiv) in religious studies, theology, divinity or related field.
  • A strong background in functional theology and the ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals and families.
  • Excellent communication skills with knowledge of counseling techniques.
  • Ability to identify clients’ needs with consideration to cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and other diverse backgrounds
  • Experience and compassion in ministering to those who are dying and their grieving families.
As a Chaplain You Will
  • Provide comprehensive holistic spiritual care to patients, families, and healthcare staff, including counseling, crisis response, and sacramental support.
  • Assist during emergencies, guides families through illness and end-of-life processes and promote patient safety.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, participate in care planning, education, and ethical discussions, and supports staff through consultations and training.
  • Contributes to departmental operations, mentoring, and community outreach while upholding organizational values and maintaining active involvement in their faith community.
  • Participates in the QA/CQI process for Advocate Hospice.
  • Must be able to travel to all areas within the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather on all types of roads. Exposed to widely varying social and environmental conditions in patient’s neighborhoods and homes.
  • Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities.
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed.
What You’ll Do
  • Schedule: Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, providing spiritual care support to hospice patients and families throughout the Sheboygan and Manitowoc service areas. Participation in holiday and on-call rotations required.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Exposed to widely varying social and environmental conditions in patient’s neighborhoods and homes.
  • Availability and transportation to serve on-call rotation as needed. Must be able to travel to all areas within the Advocate Aurora service area in all extremes of weather on all types of roads.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday.
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime if needed. Required to make visits to private residences which may not be accessible to people with disabilities.
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear PPE, protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
