Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Assist in feeding patients when needed.
  • Assist the patient in ambulation.
  • Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair, as taught and supervised by the nurse.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with certain treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and as allowed by state regulations.
  • Promote patient’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest.
  • Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
  • Report any change in the patient’s condition or home situation to the RN and interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate basic care techniques to the primary caregiver.
  • Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
  • Provide accurate documentation with visit itineraries.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in at least one Quality Improvement activity yearly.
  • Complete documentation promptly as per orientation guidelines.
Qualifications - About You
  • Compassionate, kind, and empathetic to patients and families.
  • Comfortable providing care in patients' homes.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and composure during crises.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Six months of patient care experience preferred in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology.
  • Additional experience in hospital settings (e.g., Staff RN, Med Surg, ER, critical care, etc.) is advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification.
