Dane County Department of Human Services (DCDHS) - Badger Prairie Health Care Center (BPHCC) is currently recruiting for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). BPHCC currently has various part-time positions available. The eligible list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within the next six (6) months.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing Services or Nurse Manager, and the detailed direction and task delegation of a Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide a safe environment, assist with activities of daily living per individualized care plans, and provide physical and psychosocial support to Badger Prairie Health Care Center (BPHCC) residents. CNAs work cooperatively with nursing staff and support services to meet the objectives and philosophy of the facility; and perform related work as required.

Education, Experience And Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to High School graduation. Must also possess at least one year of current and relevant experience employed as a regularly scheduled Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent providing care for persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or dementia within the last three (3) years.
Certifications/Licenses: Must be federally certified and able to work in the State of Wisconsin. Currently on the Federal Nurse Aide Registry (inclusion on Home Health, Hospice or Hospital Registry only is not sufficient.)
Special Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Access to a telephone. No previous criminal convictions for abuse, mistreatment or neglect of others. Free of clinically apparent communicable disease. (Refer to other special requirements noted in the ‘Physical and Environmental Work Requirements’ section below.)
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.). Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
Physical And Environmental Work Requirements: Must be able to work beyond an eight (8)-hour shift. Ability to exert physical effort in moderate to heavy work, including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, and moving 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to run at least one (1) flight of stairs to respond to emergency situations. Must be able to work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays. Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents. Potential for exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including blood borne and air borne pathogens. May be required to wear personal protective equipment, up to and including, an N95 respirator. Must be able to safely and effectively work with verbally and physically aggressive residents. Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Knowledge of theory and procedures for providing basic nursing care. Knowledge of principles of milieu and group therapeutics and ability to effectively implement them. Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and possess the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies. Ability to show compassion, empathy, and an understanding of resident care. Ability to function effectively as a team member in providing total nursing care. Ability to recognize resident and staff safety needs and limitations and implement ways to keep residents safe and free from harm. Ability to safely and effectively implement crisis intervention procedures. Ability to use self as a therapeutic change agent. Ability to actively participate in treatment planning, household and facility meetings. Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with residents and coworkers. Ability to independently perform assigned duties. Ability to apply situational reasoning by exercising good judgement, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information. Ability to adapt to change. Ability to fulfill cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, and memorization). Must be fluent in speaking the English language.

Bilingual Pay: Employees who work in bilingual designated positions receive an additional $2.00 per hour.
Undesirable Hours Premium Pay: Employees may receive undesirable hours pay of $2.00 for anytime worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m and for anytime on Saturday and/or Sunday. (not applicable with all employee groups).
Paid Parental Leave: Dane County also provides 12 weeks of paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child.
Caregiver Leave: Dane County offers 80 hours of paid leave to care for an ill family member.
Telecommuting: Telecommuting allows employees to work remotely for all or part of their workweek. Dane County considers telecommuting to be a viable, flexible option when both the employee and the job are suited to such an arrangement. Dane County will permit telecommuting when it benefits the productivity of the employee and their department and if determined by employee's department that telecommuting is not detrimental to either the County or the employee.
Student Loan Forgiveness: If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
WI Retirement System: Employees hired after 7-1-11 must be expected to work a minimum of 1200 hours annually to be enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System when hired.
