Responsibilities of a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant
- Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director or Patient Care Manager and function under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
- Help the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Prepare and serve light meals.
- Assist in feeding patients when needed.
- Assist the patient in ambulation.
- Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
- Assist with treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and as permitted by state regulations.
- Promote patient’s mental alertness through activities of interest.
- Provide basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members.
- Report changes in the patient’s condition or home situation to the RN and team.
- Demonstrate basic care to the primary caregiver.
- Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
- Accurately document visits and care provided.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Complete documentation promptly as outlined in orientation.
Qualifications - About You
- Compassionate, kind, and empathetic to patients and families.
- Comfortable providing care in the patient's home.
- Flexible and composed in crisis situations.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- Six months of patient care experience in relevant settings preferred.
- Additional experience in hospital or emergency settings beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
- Current CPR certification.
