Job summary

Compassus in Wichita, Kansas seeks a Bereavement Coordinator to promote our values and oversee a grief support program for patients and the bereaved families during hospice care and for at least one year after the patient’s death.

The role functions within the Interdisciplinary Team, developing and implementing the bereavement plan of care, conducting risk assessments, delivering counseling, and coordinating memorial and support services with community resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Theology, Divinity, or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience in grief, loss, and/or bereavement support strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates as a member of the IDT, including development and implementation of the plan of care.
• Promotes and supports assessment of bereavement risk factors at admission and throughout the hospice patient’s care.
• Develops and implements the bereavement plan of care after the death of the patient.
• Identifies the needs of non-family caregivers and ensures bereavement support for them.
• Assists in identifying the need for intervention of other IDT members.
• Delivers high quality bereavement support and develops memorial services.
