Job summary

Hospice of Virginia is seeking a PRN Bereavement Coordinator to support Tappahannock and surrounding counties. You will coordinate grief counseling services, plan program development, and provide support to both families and hospice staff.

The role emphasizes independent work with team guidance, community outreach, and participation in in-service education and committees. A related degree and experience with bereavement are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in grief/loss counseling.
• Experience with families/caregivers and patients facing death/dying.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate assessment and delivery of grief counseling (one-to-one, groups, follow-up).
• Plan Bereavement Program development, expansion and annual evaluation of services.
• Provide bereavement support to hospice personnel coping with work-related grief.
• Provide information and referral services to community callers and maintain resource lists.
• Assist in evaluating and planning services for hospice personnel support needs.
• Participate in hospice activities and relevant committees.

What You’ll Do:

• Coordinates the assessment and delivery of grief counseling needs and services (one-to-one, groups, and ongoing follow-up) to ensure timely and appropriate services are provided to family caregivers
• Plans for Bereavement Program development, expansion and refinement through annual evaluation of services
• Provides bereavement support to hospice personnel coping with work related grief through on-to-one counseling, supervision of interns providing one-to-one counseling, and referral to community resources
• Provides bereavement information and referral services to callers from the community. Expands and maintains community resource list as needed
• Assists as needed in evaluating and planning services to meet hospice personnel support needs (i.e., yearly retreats, weekly support groups)
• Functions independently, but seeks and accepts guidance from other members of the team and or members of the community
• Participates in hospice activities such as in-service education, hospice personnel meetings, and relevant committees

• Understanding of grief response and experience with counseling individuals and/or in groups regarding loss
