Job summary

Citizens is seeking a Home Equity Senior Underwriter in Mason, OH to render quality credit decisions on complex HELOC applications. You will review documentation, apply the Consumer Lending policy and regulatory guidelines, and communicate decisions to mitigate risk while supporting business objectives.

The role emphasizes data-driven analysis, sound judgment, and collaboration with multiple departments in a fast-paced environment. A 40-hour work week with in-office presence is typical.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of related experience preferred in Home Equity lending or underwriting.
  • Knowledge of equity lending policies, procedures, and products, plus secondary market guidelines.
  • Organized, detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, communication and computer skills.
  • Experience with automated systems and required office attendance to coordinate with multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and decide on Home Equity Line of Credit applications in line with policy and regulatory guidelines (FCRA/EOA).
  • Ensure accuracy and currency of material information in the application based on documents provided.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment to mitigate organizational risk through informed decision making.
  • Meet or exceed productivity and credit quality standards set by the team.
  • Analyze POI documents and complex income (tax returns/K-1s) to verify ability to repay; document methodology.
  • Identify counteroffer opportunities when initial terms don’t qualify.

Primary Responsibilities Include
  • Analyze and appropriately decision Home Equity Line of Credit applications in accordance with the Consumer Lending credit policy and regulatory guidelines (including the Fair Credit Reporting Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act).
  • Ensure material information captured in the application is accurate and updated as needed based on the documentation provided.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in the analysis of required documentation while mitigating organization risk through appropriate decision making.
  • Meet or exceed productivity levels and credit quality standards, as established.
  • Analyze and interpret POI documents, including complicated personal and business tax returns/K1's, in order to determine verifiable income in an effort to verify a customer’s ability to repay the loan. Clearly document files with the methodology used to calculate the income.
  • Analyze all applications for counteroffer opportunities when the original terms requested do not qualify.
Qualifications, Education, Certifications And/or Other Professional Credentials
  • Three to five years related experience.
  • Home Equity lending and processing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equity lending policies, procedures, and products, as well as knowledge of secondary market guidelines.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented and have excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills.
  • Experience with automated systems.
  • Proficiency with the system is essential. Attendance in office during normal business hours (at minimum) may be required in order to effectively coordinate with multiple departments, projects and outside entities.
  • Ability to work well with retail sales and loan officers.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex income calculations.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced production environment.
Hours & Work Schedule
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4 days a week in Mason, OH office
Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $34.13 - $42.31 per hour, plus an opportunity to earn additional incentive earnings. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the budget, work location, and relevant skills and experience.
