Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Histotechnologist for an evening shift (3:00pm–11:30pm), 40 hours per week. The role performs routine histology, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control under pathologist review.

The candidate will maintain documentation in LIS, participate in safety programs, and support student and staff training. Excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement and loan repayment, accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, chemical, life sciences, medical laboratory technology, or histology.
• HTL (ASCP) certification or HTL (ASCP) eligible; if eligible, must take and pass within one year of employment.
• Prior CAP-accredited histology laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs cassette-log reconciliation and manages tissue processing alarms.
• Embeds biopsy and surgical tissues per SOP; ensures adequacy of processing.
• Maintains tagging, tracking, and quality documentation in the LIS and logs.
• Operates microtome, stains and coverslips slides; performs manual methods during downtimes.
• Performs gross examination, dissection, and selection of representative tissue when applicable.
• Participates in safety, infection control, and quality system activities; contributes to process improvements.
