Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• Certification as a histotechnician by a recognized agency is required.
• Seven years working experience as a histotechnician.
• Two years’ experience using a laboratory information system (LIS).
• Experience with embedding, sectioning and staining processes is expected.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily technical operation of the Histology Laboratory, including embedding, sectioning and staining quality.
• Provide guidance and feedback to staff to improve performance and efficiency.
• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and perform specialized histo- and immunocytochemistry testing.
• Coordinate and monitor workflow to ensure slides are available for pathologists/residents.
• Troubleshoot processes and ensure CAP and Joint Commission accreditation and safety requirements are met.
• Promote an environment that supports education and practical training for staff.
