Job summary

Jefferson University Physicians is seeking a per diem Histotechnician/Histotechnologist to cover call-outs, vacations, and other needs at our Center City, Philadelphia and Greenville, DE offices. The role includes processing and preparing tissue samples for diagnosis, embedding, microtomy, staining, cover-slipping, and special stains as required.

The position requires an Associate's degree or HT(ASCP) certification with laboratory experience; 1–2 years of prior histology experience is preferred,

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s degree in related life science or applied science field OR HT(ASCP) certification with laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience: 1–2 years’ previous experience preferred; student training accepted.
• Certification: HT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs histological procedures including embedding, cutting, and staining surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
• Maintains reagents and equipment; records instrument maintenance and troubleshoots
• Communicates with clinical staff about specimen submission requirements and test results
• Participates in orientation and training of new employees and students; assists with continuing education and proficiency testing.
