Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a full-time Histotechnologist (2nd or 3rd shift) to perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and staining in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's clinical laboratory. The role may involve supervision, training, and ongoing quality control within a dynamic team.

Qualifications include an Associate degree in Histotechnology or equivalent, HTL ASCP certification (or eligible), and 5–7 years of related experience depending on level.

Qualifications

• Associate of Arts or Science in Histotechnology or equivalent (substantiated by foreign credential evaluation).
• HTL ASCP certification or eligible to take exam.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5 years of experience required for Histotech II.
• 7 years of experience required for Histotech III.

Responsibilities

• Performs tissue processing, decalcification, embedding, microtomy and staining procedures.
• Evaluates and maintains procedures, instruments, records and quality control.
• Identifies areas for quality improvement and assists in reporting and modifying procedures.
• Demonstrates leadership potential and may orient/train new employees.
• Maintains confidentiality and staffing across all shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Maintains inventory and uses basic computer applications for data entry and reporting.
