Job description

Histotechnologist II - Marietta, GA - On Call

This position involves grossing surgical specimens, primarily for individuals with limited experience in this area. The role includes performing gross examinations of small, uncomplicated specimens, and some more complex specimens as approved by the technical supervisor. Supervision levels will be determined by the supervisor and/or laboratory director.

Pay Range: $29.37+ per hour; employees may be eligible for shift differentials of 10% for second shift and 15% for third shift. Further details will be provided if an offer is extended.

Salary offers depend on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and market factors. Successful candidates may also qualify for an annual performance bonus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare slides for microscopic evaluation following policies and procedures.
2. Perform duties of a Histotechnologist I.
3. Perform gross tissue examinations if qualified per CLIA CFR 493.1489 and SOP.
4. Prepare solutions and reagents for special stains and IHC procedures.
5. Obtain and validate control tissues and materials for stains and IHC.
6. Perform all special stain and IHC testing as needed.
7. Train and guide other laboratory staff and students.
8. Prepare non-gynecological specimens, including FNA specimens, after training.
9. Maintain quality control and assurance standards, recognize and correct outliers.
10. Identify processing issues and escalate as needed.
11. Complete routine histology functions independently.
12. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
13. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• AS degree or equivalent
• HT (ASCP)
• 3 years histology experience
• Current state licensure, if applicable
• Meet corporate minimum qualifications for Histotechnician and Histology Supervisor
• If performing IHC, meet specific SOP requirements

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree
• HTL (ASCP)
• Graduate of NAACLS-accredited program
• 6 years histopathology experience
• IHC experience

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Lifting objects up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks
