Shift: PRN, 3am start time, Monday - Friday (shift may end between 9am - 11am, varying upon workload)

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a Histotechnologist II who will support Emory Healthcare’s mission of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring, and integrity. This individual:

  • Performs routine or complex histologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment while upholding the values of the organization.
  • May accession tissue specimens; prepares routine specimens for fixation in automatic processors.
  • Embeds and sections specimens using a microtome.
  • Affixes tissue to slides, stains, cover slips, and labels slides.
  • Maintains a reference system of control blocks and slides for use in special studies.
  • Prepares fixative and staining solutions according to established laboratory procedures.
  • May perform frozen section microtomy.
  • Assists with monitoring and maintaining inventories of laboratory supplies and chemicals.
  • Performs and participates in the review and reporting of quality control activities in the laboratory.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.
  • Certification as HT(ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, with a minimum of two (2) years' experience, or certification as HTL(ASCP) or HTL-eligible by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists with no experience.
  • Certification must be obtained within 18 months of employment.
