Job summary

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is seeking a Histotechnologist for a full-time morning shift (4:00am–12:30pm) in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. The role involves preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, embedding, cutting, staining, and frozen sections, with responsibilities in quality control and staff training.

The position requires familiarity with histology instrumentation, strong attention to detail, and good English communication.

Qualifications

• Familiar with histology lab instrumentation and processes.
• Critical thinking skills.
• Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Ability to prepare tissue specimens to confirm patient diagnoses.
• Ability to perform complex histological procedures, record and analyze data, and maintain/repair instruments.
• Knowledge of specimen handling and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assists at patient bedside for Fine Needle Aspirations.
• Prepare and process cytology specimens for staining and examination by pathologists.
• Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots instrumentation for safe routine operations.
• Orders and maintains inventory of supplies in the section.
• Follows safety policies including PPE and chemical handling.
• Mentions of laboratory safety and infection control compliance.
• May receive and accession tissue samples into the lab system and bill accordingly.
• May process and prepare samples for in-house testing and send-out testing.
• Prepares cassettes, embeds, cuts tissues, and prepares slides; performs immunohistochemical staining and quality control.
• Conducts analytical activities related to specimen processing and staining.
