Job summary

UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital in Longmont, CO seeks a Histotechnologist/Histotechnician to prepare and stain tissue slides for diagnostic pathology, embedding, sectioning, and rapid intraoperative testing. You will perform special stains and assist with antibody testing as needed, in a fast-paced onsite lab.

This role requires HT/HTL certification per NAACLS and offers hourly pay from $29.54 to $44.31, with a strong benefits package and opportunities for growth within UCHealth.

Qualifications

• HT/HTL certification required within 6 months of hire (ASCP).
• NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program, or equivalent biology/chemistry coursework with histopathology experience.
• Baccalaureate degree with biology/chemistry and HT/HTL training or experience.

Responsibilities

• Embeds and sections processed tissue to produce slides for diagnosis.
• Sections frozen tissue to produce slides for quick intraoperative diagnosis.

This position is an onsite role and does not offer a hybrid or remote option

Responsibilities

• Embeds and sections processed tissue sections to produce slides for diagnosis. Sections frozen tissue to produce slides for quick diagnosis during surgical procedures.
• Performs special staining techniques for interstitial elements of tissue sections to include micro-organisms and various cellular components including antigens and enzymes for complex diagnosis and prognostic markers.
• Conducts research and titrations of new antibodies used as diagnostic tools for diagnosis and prognosis. Serves as a consultant to laboratory staff and other clinical staff as needed.
• Maintains immediate work area and equipment used for embedding and sectioning specimens. Maintains processing equipment, stainers and solutions used in processes.
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements

• HT/HTL certification received after January 1st, 2004: Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program; or 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry combined with one year full time acceptable experience in histopathology; or Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry combined with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT or HTL program or one year full time acceptable experience in histopathology.
• HT/HTL certification received prior to year 2004: High school diploma/GED.
• Required Licensure/Certification: Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 6 months of hire.
