Responsabilidades

• Log surgical specimens using LIS to note patient identification, specimen source, collection method and number of blocks.
• Assist pathologist with gross examination of surgical specimens following standard precautions.
• Operate tissue processor to prepare specimens for embedding and ensure reagents are current.
• Embed tissue samples in paraffin and orient specimens for acceptable slides.
• Section tissue using microtome with appropriate cuts (serial or step).
• Mount sections on slides, prioritizing STATs or special requests.
• Prepare and evaluate staining solutions and perform special stains with controls.
• Coverslip slides and label with LIS-generated labels.
• Assist with frozen sections; ensure cryotome is ready and sectioning proceeds as requested.
