Qualifications

• Ability to prepare tissue specimens to confirm patient diagnoses.
• Ability to perform complex histological procedures, record and analyze data.
• Up-to-date knowledge of specimen handling from accession to storage.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to maintain safety standards and comply with regulations.
• Up-to-date knowledge of histology practice.
• Must read, write and speak conversational English.

Responsibilities

• Registers, orders, and accesses pathology specimens into systems.
• Performs specimen processing, embedding, microtomy and staining.
• Prepares specimens for research requests and transports samples per guidelines.
• May perform special staining and document quality control.
• Adheres to safety policies and handles hazardous waste training.
• Operates automated histology equipment per procedures.
• Assists pathologists with frozen sections and specimen collection.
