Job Description:
Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. These techniques include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This also encompasses complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.
Unless currently working as a Histotechnician in an approved clinical laboratory or HT certified (ASCP or equivalent), the education received from a NAACLS-accredited HT program is acceptable for five years from the completion date.
