Ideal candidates have a NAACLS HT program or equivalent education with biology/chemistry credits, 1 year of clinical histology experience with certification or 3 years without, and ASCP certification within 18 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician (HT) program within the last 5 years or an associated degree with biology/chemistry coursework.
• 1 year of clinical histology lab experience with certification, or 3 years in histology without certification.
• ASCP certification required within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
• Embed and section tissues, including minute biopsies, following protocols and proper orientation.
• Perform QC checks at each processing and staining phase.
• Prepare slides for microtomy with barcode-accurate patient identification.
• Maintain and calibrate histology instruments per QC guidelines.
• Assist with filing, cleaning, stocking supplies and general lab duties.

Shifts available:

• Daylight: Monday–Friday, variable start between 3:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
• Afternoon: Monday–Friday, 1:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Night: Monday–Friday, 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.

Hourly rate: Competitive hourly rate and shift differential offer to off shifts

Overview

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Histotechnician to join its technologically driven histology lab, serving multiple local hospitals, who plays a vital role in supporting complex diagnostic and research needs across the system.

Responsibilities

• Understands CoPath related to Histology workflow.
• Progresses towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Performs QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
• Processes and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
• Embeds and cuts specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
• Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.
• Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
• Maintains instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
• Performs additional tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
• 1 year of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with certification OR 3 years of experience working as Histology Lab Technician or equivalent title without certification.
• ASCP certification is required within 18 months of hire.

Additional Requirements for Sr. Histotechnician

• 2 years of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with Histotechnician- HT (ASCP) certification is required or 3 years of experience without certification.
