Job summary

TALENT Software Services is seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnician to support an Anatomic Pathology laboratory, preparing, processing, and analyzing tissue specimens for microscopic review. The role requires independence, precision, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or equivalent training.
  • ASCP Histologic Technician (HT) Certification preferred; eligible within six months of hire.
  • Experience in a clinical histology or anatomic pathology laboratory preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume lab.
  • Experience embedding, microtomy, and routine histology techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination through embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Process surgical and autopsy specimens according to laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare routine, special, and frozen section slides for evaluation.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) slide preparation as required.
  • Assist with renal biopsy specimen preparation and processing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of specimens, blocks, slides, and staining records.
  • File and organize slides and paraffin blocks.
  • Follow LIS for documentation and workflow management.
  • Maintain QC/QA procedures and safety protocols.

Histotechnician (ASCP Preferred)

We are seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnician to join a fast-paced Anatomic Pathology laboratory. In this role, you will prepare, process, and analyze tissue specimens for microscopic examination while supporting pathologists and laboratory staff. The ideal candidate is capable of working independently, maintaining high-quality standards, and ensuring accurate specimen processing in compliance with laboratory policies and safety regulations.

Assignment Details
  • Employment Type: Direct Hire
  • Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
  • Shift: Monday - Friday, 3:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Holidays: Rotating holidays as required

Histology & Specimen Processing
  • Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination through embedding, microtomy, and staining.
  • Process surgical and autopsy specimens according to laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare routine, special, and frozen section slides for pathological evaluation.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) slide preparation as required.
  • Assist with renal biopsy specimen preparation and processing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of specimens, blocks, slides, and staining records.
  • File and organize slides and paraffin blocks.
Laboratory Operations
  • Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures for histology processes.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, and special stains.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with inventory management, chemical storage, and supply replenishment.
  • Follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for documentation and workflow management.
Pathology Support
  • Assist pathologists during gross examination of surgical specimens.
  • Participate in specimen collection when needed.
  • Process frozen sections for intraoperative consultations.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all laboratory policies.
  • Participate in continuing education and competency development.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory personnel and other healthcare professionals.

Required Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or equivalent training.
Certification
  • ASCP Histologic Technician (HT) Certification preferred.
  • Certification-eligible candidates are encouraged to apply and must obtain certification within six months of hire.
Experience
  • Experience in a clinical histology or anatomic pathology laboratory preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume laboratory environment.
  • Experience with embedding, microtomy, and routine histology techniques.

  • Ability to work with laboratory equipment, chemicals, and biological specimens while following appropriate safety procedures.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for microscope work and detailed specimen evaluation.

This is a high-volume laboratory environment requiring strong independent work habits, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain productivity while consistently producing high-quality histology specimens. Candidates will have opportunities to develop additional technical skills, including embedding, microtomy, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
