Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Histotechnician for St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. This full‑time role supports pathology and cytology specimen processing, accommodating night shifts with potential for remote/hybrid options as indicated. External candidates may be eligible for a bonus.

The position requires NAACLS‑accredited Histotechnician training or equivalent education and US experience in histology, with ASCP HT certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program
• 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) with biology and chemistry and 1 year histopathology experience
• Associate degree with biology and chemistry and 1 year histopathology experience

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens for pathologist and cytotechnologist interpretation
• Perform routine and special staining procedures, IHC and ISH, Mohs and routine frozen sections as required
• Maintain instrument performance, participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities, troubleshoot issues as needed

Job Description:

Essentia Health is searching for a Histotechnician to join our team at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. This position is bonus eligible for external candidates.

Education Qualifications:

Graduate of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program

OR

Successful completion of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years

OR

An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND 1 year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens, as defined by CLIA, for pathologist and cytotechnologist interpretation.

Job duties may consist of routine and special staining procedures, IHC and ISH, Mohs and routine frozen sections as required in the diagnosis, treatment and management of pathologic conditions on patients of all ages.

Problem solving skills, participation in Quality Assurance, Quality Control monitoring, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting are required.
