Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Histotechnician to join the team at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. The role involves processing pathology and cytology specimens for interpretation by pathologists and cytotechnologists.

Candidates must graduate from a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program or meet the alternate education paths with biology/chemistry coursework and pathology lab experience within the last 5 years. ASCP HT certification is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program.
• OR: 60 semester hours with biology and chemistry and 1 year histopathology lab experience in the last 5 years.
• OR: Associate degree with biology/chemistry and 1 year histopathology lab experience in the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens for pathologist/cytotechnologist interpretation.
• Perform routine and special staining, IHC/ISH, Mohs and frozen sections as required for diagnosis.

Essentia Health is searching for a Histotechnician to join our team at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN.

Education Qualifications:

Graduate of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program

OR

Successful completion of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years

OR

An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND 1 year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens, as defined by CLIA, for pathologist and cytotechnologist interpretation.

Job duties may consist of routine and special staining procedures, IHC and ISH, Mohs and routine frozen sections as required in the diagnosis, treatment and management of pathologic conditions on patients of all ages.

Problem solving skills, participation in Quality Assurance, Quality Control monitoring, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting are required.
