Job summary

Maya Angelou Academy seeks a History Teacher to support scholars in a secure facility, delivering Civics and History courses across multiple grades. The role emphasizes flexibility and adaptive instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

The teacher will collaborate with staff, ensure compliant instructional materials, and maintain a positive learning environment. Certification within 1 year is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a subject field is required.
• Must be eligible for initial OSSE certification within 1 year of employment.
• Experience with opportunity or justice-involved youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate multi-grade, multi-content coursework for groups of multi-aged scholars in the classroom. Ensure timely lesson delivery and grading.
• Maintain a positive, structured learning environment and use restorative practices to support scholars' growth.
• Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to deliver a well-rounded program and discuss progress.
• Prepare reports (lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, gradebook) on time per guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned to maintain a safe and effective teaching environment.
