Job summary

Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation in Washington, DC, seeks a Math Teacher to support scholars within the Youth Services Center, a detention facility, delivering multi-graded instruction across Pre-Algebra to Geometry.

The role requires flexibility, restorative practices, and collaboration with staff to ensure compliant instructional materials and timely progress reporting. A Bachelor’s degree in education and OSSE certification eligibility within 1 year are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related subject field (required).
• Must have or be eligible for initial certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (must obtain initial certification within 1 year of employment).
• Experience working with opportunity or justice-involved youth (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Facilitate multi-grade, multi-content coursework for groups of scholars in each classroom or on their units.
• Maintain a positive, structured learning environment using restorative practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to discuss scholar progress and address concerns.
• Prepare reports (lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, gradebook) on time per guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
