Job summary

MASTERS Program is seeking a History Teacher to provide engaging, standards-based instruction in history, civics, geography, and social sciences. The role emphasizes culturally responsive teaching to prepare students for college and civic participation.

You will foster critical thinking, manage a inclusive classroom, and use Canvas for assignments. Minimum qualifications include a four-year degree and NM teaching license; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Job Description

The History Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging and academically rigorous learning environment that inspires students to develop a deep understanding of history, civics, geography, economics, and the social sciences. The teacher fosters critical thinking, historical inquiry, and informed citizenship while delivering standards-based instruction that prepares students for college, careers, and active participation in a diverse and democratic society. Through meaningful relationships, high expectations, and culturally responsive teaching practices, the teacher empowers students to analyze the past, understand the present, and shape the future.

Strategies / Expectations
  • Establishing and communicating course syllabi, clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects
  • Maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Communicating regularly with parents
  • Helping students improve study methods and habits
  • Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of students
  • Ensuring students explore various learning opportunities and career paths
  • Preparing lessons, units, and projects to address learning outcomes using the Canvas platform
  • Working with students one‑on‑one when they need extra help or attention
  • Ensuring equal access to the curriculum for all students
  • Ensuring all accommodations and modifications are implemented
  • Tracking and evaluating student academic progress
  • Leading parent‑teacher meetings
  • Serving as an advisor to a group of students
  • Meet with students and families to select courses for the next semester
  • Managing student behavior
  • Proctoring assessments
  • Using assessment data to inform instruction
  • Supporting school‑wide initiatives
Education / Training / Experience

Minimum: Four‑year degree and valid New Mexico Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain such), with appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught.

Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish. At least one year of previous teaching experience.

Contract & Pay

Contract: 1.0 FTE – 10 Months

Pay Schedule: NMPED Teachers

Licensure

NMPED 7-12 Secondary with Social Studies endorsement OR K-12 Specialty with Social Studies endorsement
