Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism is seeking a qualified professional to provide technical and professional services in cultural resource management and historical interpretation for the State Park Service, serving as the primary liaison with assigned parks.

Under limited supervision, you will oversee cultural resource management projects, manage collections and archives, conduct training, and coordinate interpretive programs and publications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in history, cultural resource management or related field with 3 years' experience in historic site management and interpretation.
• Master's degree with one year of experience in historic site management and interpretation.
• Moderate driving and travel may be required; occasional overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Oversees cultural resource management projects and planning in cooperation with field staff and Resource Management Chief, including restoration, preservation, and stabilization of cultural resources in the State Park Service.
• Manages collections, catalogues and conserves cultural objects owned by the Park Service, including institutional collections and archives.
• Conducts training in area of expertise; coordinates with field staff to promote teamwork within the park and across the agency; represents office on agency teams.
• Oversees research and coordinates with the Education Section and field staff of interpretive programs, exhibits, and educational publications in history and cultural resources.
• Advises the agency and recommends policies, procedures and strategies in history, interpretation and cultural resources; contributes to management plans for cultural resources.
