Job summary

New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation seeks an Interpretive Programs Assistant to develop and administer educational programs at a historic site. You will prepare seminars, lectures, and tours, researching and scripting content for handouts and exhibits.

You will train seasonal staff and collaborate with schools and partner organizations to enhance programming and visitor engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and conducting interpretation programs OR a relevant degree plus experience.
• Ability to plan educational activities and curriculum-aligned programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication for tours, handouts, and lectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer educational and visitors' programs at an assigned historic site.
• Prepare and conduct seminars, lectures, guided tours, and educational demonstrations.
• Research historical background to ensure accurate exhibits and activities.
• Write scripts for tours and materials; supervise tours and create handouts.
• Train and supervise seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers for workshops.
• Collaborate with partner organizations to loan artifacts and coordinate events.
