Job summary

City of Grapevine operates the Grapevine Vintage Railroad and is seeking a Train Service Personnel II to serve as conductor and fireman. You will inspect equipment, maintain steam pressure, coordinate with dispatch, and ensure safe, on-time train operations for passengers.

Position requires GCOR compliance, FRA rules proficiency, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays. A valid Texas driver’s license and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must pass GCOR rules test with 85% or higher.
• Verifiable experience as a "service covered" Railroad Conductor or Fireman, or as a "service covered" TSP I with the City of Grapevine.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, FRA 5-panel drug screen, and Level 1 functional assessment.
• Must pass FRA vision and audio screenings (Ishihara and Titmus) and periodic random drug/alcohol testing.
• Criminal background check preferred: Federal/National.
• FRA regulations knowledge and compliance required.

Responsibilities

• Operate as fireman and conductor on GVRR; maintain water level and steam pressure.
• Coordinate with dispatchers and engineer for safe movements.
• Ensure on-time departures/arrivals and passenger safety.
• Inspect equipment daily; perform preventive maintenance.
• Diagnose malfunctions in brakes, electrical, HVAC, and powertrain.
• Complete FRA logs/reports accurately; keep organized records.
• Maintain current rule book and instructions.
• Assist in repairs, roundhouse operations, and tool management.
• Participate in charters, events, and other duties.
• Support volunteer programs to promote GVRR.
• Interact professionally with public and coworkers; present a safe atmosphere.
• Work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
