Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation seeks a dedicated Landscape Technician to maintain historic gardens to high horticultural standards. The role supports the Lead Horticulturist in implementing planting, pruning, soil management, and landscape restoration within the Historic Area.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, following safety guidelines, coordinating with IPM staff, and mentoring interns. Candidates should have a strong horticulture background and a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED with 4 years of garden/landscape maintenance experience.
• Alternatively, a 2-year horticulture degree plus 2 years’ direct maintenance work.
• Strong knowledge of landscaping tools and horticultural practices.
• Must possess Virginia pesticide applicator certificate within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain health and appearance of gardens across designated areas.
• Perform planting, pruning, soil amendment, weeding and turf care.
• Follow BMPs for trees, shrubs, perennials, and herbs and stay current with practices.
• Operate large equipment and coordinate safety procedures per OSHA.
• Lead interns/volunteers; ensure proper training and tool use.
• Assist with garden talks, tours, and visitor inquiries.
