Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is seeking a Landscape Supervisor to lead garden and landscape maintenance across the historic site. You will supervise staff, coordinate daily operations, ensure safety and quality standards, and work with IPM specialists to manage pests and plant health.

You’ll guide teams, monitor inventory and project documentation, engage with visitors during talks and tours, and support special events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/G.E.D. with 8 years of direct garden and landscape maintenance experience, or a horticultural degree with 4 years of maintenance experience.
• Foreman-level experience in landscape and garden maintenance at large institutions where gardening is practiced.
• Strong knowledge of landscaping tools, equipment, and horticultural practices.
• Must obtain Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certificate within 90 days of employment.
• Requires valid Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned employees, volunteers, and interns; assign work and oversee daily operations to meet goals.
• Lead daily team meetings to establish goals and direct work for garden-related activities.
• Interact with visitors and Colonial Williamsburg guests; give talks and tours to garden clubs and programs.
• Maintain project documentation, daily logs, material usage, and reports to landscape managers.
• Operate large equipment safely (tractors, loaders, dump trucks, etc.) and ensure proper tool maintenance.
• Ensure OSHA compliance and safety training for staff; manage inventory and budget within approvals.
• Research Colonial Williamsburg properties and 18th-century gardening methods.
