Job summary

Maymont Foundation in Richmond, Virginia seeks a Horticulture and Grounds Technician I to support care for the 100-acre estate. The role reports to the Senior Manager of Horticulture and Grounds and involves landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and volunteer coordination.

The position requires at least 1 year in landscape or horticulture, a GED or equivalent, and a willingness to obtain a pesticide applicator license. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and events is required.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of landscape or horticulture experience.
• GED or equivalent.
• Willing to obtain a registered pesticide applicator license.
• Experience operating landscape equipment (mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws) preferred.
• Experience operating tractors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing care of gardens and grounds through landscape maintenance.
• Support the park operations department's year-round schedule of tasks.
• Operate Maymont vehicles and landscaping equipment including mowers and power tools.
• Lead garden volunteers and groups assisting with projects and routine work.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and storage spaces.
• Support other departments and occasional weekend/evening work as needed, including storm prep.
• Participate in Maymont community events as needed.
• Assist with other duties and tasks as assigned.
