Job summary

Foundation Medicine in Morrisville, NC is seeking a Histotechnologist II to perform routine testing in a high complexity clinical diagnostic laboratory. You will handle receipt of patient samples and prepare slides for microscopic analysis, while assisting in SOPs and process improvements.

The role involves cutting, mounting, staining, batching slides, and collaborating across the Laboratory Operations team. A regulated environment and training for continued safety are part of the job.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of histology lab experience.
• Associates degree plus 3 years histology lab experience.
• Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years histology lab experience.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Responsibilities

• Answer questions, troubleshoot equipment, and facilitate interdepartmental projects.
• Troubleshoot on-hold cases and ensure sample movement through lab facilities.
• Assist in training new employees for relevant tasks.
• Operate a microtome to produce slides from paraffin blocks.
• Perform Automated H&E Staining and Manual Kwik-Diff Staining.
• Prepare samples for nucleic acid extraction.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance.
• Ensure molecular specimen integrity and quality.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and 4 years of histology laboratory experience

Associates Degree in biological, life, or laboratory sciences and 3 years of histology laboratory experience

Bachelor’s degree in biological or life sciences and 2 years of histology laboratory experience
