Job summary
The Penn Vet Laboratory of Pathology and Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks an experienced histology technician to support the Penn Vet Diagnostic Laboratory (PVDL) and the Comparative Pathology Core (CPC). The role emphasizes tissue trimming, embedding, sectioning, and immunohistochemical staining.
Responsibilities include instrument maintenance, case distribution and filing, and collaboration with faculty pathologists, researchers, staff, and residents.
Qualifications
- An Associate of Science degree is required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with tissue preparation and processing is required.
Responsibilities
- Tissue trimming and embedding.
- Sectioning/microtoming of processed and frozen tissues.
- Histochemical staining.
- Immunohistochemical staining (auto-immunostaining instrument) as well as infrequent manual staining.
- Instrument maintenance (tissue processor, autostainer, cover-slipper).
- Distribution and filing of cases, slides, and blocks.
- Opportunities to trim fixed tissues and aid in optimizing novel antibodies for immunohistochemistry.
- Other duties as assigned.
