Job summary

HCA Healthcare is seeking a Histology Technician to meticulously prepare and process specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a pathologist. The role emphasizes histology and cytology procedures, equipment maintenance, and contribution to quality improvement in the laboratory.

The technician will work closely with pathologists and care teams to ensure accurate and timely results, supporting patient care.

Qualifications

• Possess comprehensive understanding of histology methods.
• Demonstrate ability to follow directions and fixation protocols.
• Prepare and produce specimen sections with proper orientation and stain quality.
• Handle cutting, embedding, orientation and staining for diagnosis.
• Understand laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements.
• Exhibit teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality control and assurance; participate in continuous quality improvement.
• Prepare and process specimens for gross and microscopic examination; assist in frozen sections.
• Perform histology and cytology procedures including fixation, embedding, staining, and sectioning.
• Maintain identification of samples, blocks, and slides.
• Prepare staining solutions and perform routine/special stains; maintain equipment.
