Job summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Southern California is seeking a full-time Histology Technician I to support day-to-day operations in the AP Histology Laboratory. The incumbent will prepare reagents, process tissues, receive and triage specimens, and ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.

shift details include Mon-Fri, 4:30 AM - 1:00 PM; salary range $34.30–$42.76 per hour with a competitive overall compensation package.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Related undergraduate study, Biology or Chemistry.
Minimum Certifications: ASCP issued certification or eligibility within one year of employment.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Certifications: ASCP Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Chemistry (ASCP) certification.

Responsibilities

Prepare reagents or media under direct supervision.
Process tissue and bone marrow samples for microtome or cryostat section including dehydration, embedding, cutting, staining or decalcification.
Receive, accession, and triage patient specimens, blocks and slides.
Follow CAP and CLIA guidelines while working in Histology.
Monitor incoming phone inquiries and requests.
Maintain courteous relations with clients and personnel.
Identify specimens to be referred to outside laboratories or other USC laboratories.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials per safety protocols.
Maintain, track and organize laboratory supplies and monitor inventory.
