Job summary

Gastro Health in West Kendall is seeking a full-time Histology Clerk to join our growing lab team. You will handle specimen pickup from ASC, prepare and receive slides, document demographics, and assist technical staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Associate of Applied Science is preferred.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Courteous interaction with coworkers and clients is required.
• Punctual, dependable, and detail oriented with vigilant workflow monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for specimen pickup from Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC).
• Prepare and receive consultant and reference laboratory slides.
• Ensure patient demographics and clerical information are properly documented.
• Accession cases within the laboratory information system (LIS).
• Assist technical staff with non-technical tasks in the laboratory.
• Comply with safety and regulatory policies.
• Handle biohazard and chemically hazardous materials as required.
• Organize and deliver slides to the pathologist.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and operate non-complex automated equipment.
• Store slides and blocks in short- and long-term storage.
• Organize supplies delivered to the lab.
• Answer internal and external calls.

Duties you will be responsible for:

• Responsible for specimen pick up from Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC).
• Responsible for preparing and receiving consultant and reference laboratory slides.
• Ensuring patient demographic and clerical information is properly documented.
• Ability to accession cases within the laboratory information system (LIS).
• Assisting technical staff with non-technical work throughout the laboratory.
• Comply with all safety and regulatory policies.
• Routine handling of biohazard and/or chemically hazardous material.
• Organize and deliver slides to the pathologist.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and running of non-complex automated equipment.
• Storing of slides and blocks in short- and long-term storage.
• Organizing of supplies delivered to the lab.
• Tending to internal and external phone calls.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• The individual must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency
• Must be able to interact with fellow coworkers
• Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact
• Must be alert and energetic with constant monitoring of workflow
