Job summary

Heartland Dermatology Center in Wichita, KS seeks a Histology Technician to prepare surgical specimens, perform microtomy, cut and stain slides, and enter data for pathologists. You will label slides, ensure accurate records, and coordinate with the Mohs surgeon and nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or CFR 493.1489-qualified for high complexity testing.
• Willing to work independently yet closely with others as a team player.
• Able to take initiative and pay close attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepares grossing area and specimens for the Pathologist.
• Prepares and performs routine biological staining techniques.
• Cuts tissue (Microtomy) and places the tissue on slides.
• Embeds, cuts, and stains tissue for histologic examination.
• Maintains organized slide storage.
• Document maintenance and troubleshooting with Mohs surgeon and nurses.
• Label and match block to slide.
• Accessioning and writing blocks.
• Write and print slide labels for the next day.
• Dispose of Biohazard and hazardous chemicals.
• Stock supplies.
• File slides.
• Record patient information in laboratory logs.
• Maintain and operate equipment and instruments.
• Enter information into notes and systems.
