Job summary

PathGroup in Overland Park, KS is seeking a Histotechnician (HT) to prepare human tissue for examination, performing embedding, microtomy and related histology tasks, including special stains and IHC as directed.

The role emphasizes QA, safety, and documentation, with a focus on maintaining clean work areas and proper disposal of hazardous waste while following privacy and security policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have completed on the job histology training or documented formal histology training.
• Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification if appropriate.
• Minimum of one year experience working in a histology lab, performing microtomy and/or embedding is required.

Responsibilities

• Embed all types of tissue.
• Section all types of paraffin embedded tissue.
• Follow set procedures for embedding and microtomy.
• Maintain embedding area, microtome, and workstation clean; sustain QC.
• Maintain fresh solutions, stains and reagents.
• Perform special stain and/or IHC procedures as directed.
• Assist with case assembly and distribution as needed.
• File blocks and slides as needed.
• Properly handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
• Assist in documentation and maintaining department QA programs.
• Adhere to safety procedures and privacy/security policies.
