Job summary

Northeast Dermatology Associates seeks a Laboratory Technician with a strong background in histology to perform specimen preparation, staining, and documentation in a busy pathology setting.

The role requires adherence to QA/QC procedures, safety protocols, and accurate reporting. The ideal candidate has knowledge of immunohistochemistry and maintenance of histology equipment, with a commitment to patient care and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, or medical laboratory technology.
• 60 semester hours (or equivalent) with 24 in medical laboratory technology or 24 in science including chemistry/biology.
• Minimum of one year in an anatomic pathology laboratory preferred.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen preparation using histology techniques including grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
• Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and documentation throughout preparation.
• Follow quality control procedures and participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement.
• Operate and maintain histology instruments and equipment; report malfunctions.
• Identify workflow challenges and assist in process improvement to reduce turnaround time and errors.
• Handle chemicals and hazardous materials per safety regulations and biosafety standards.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and demonstrate professional conduct.
• Maintain reliable attendance to support laboratory workflow.
• Assist with additional laboratory tasks and cross-training as needed.
