MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center is seeking a full-time histology support technician to assist in accessioning specimens, registering in the pathology information system, and labeling & billing tasks. The role includes assisting with frozen sections and general histology duties, with emphasis on accuracy and teamwork.

The position requires at least a high school diploma; medical terminology knowledge is preferred, with some laboratory experience and willingness to obtain additional terminology

Qualifikationen

• A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Medical assistant diploma is preferred; Educational transcript required for verification.
• Medical terminology or willingness to obtain within 6 months from hire.
• Six months experience in a laboratory setting preferred.

Aufgaben

• Supports histology gross room and department in accessioning surgical specimens and biopsies.
• Registers specimens in the Anatomic Pathology Information System and links patient records.
• Selects appropriate part type, labels cassette, and records billing as needed.
• Assists pathologist in frozen sections and performs Histology support tasks.
• Answers phone calls and communicates with MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center staff.
• Performs other responsibilities as requested by Pathologist, Path Assistant, Regional Laboratory Manager or Histology Lead Tech.
