Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical assistant diploma preferred; transcript required for verification.
• Medical terminology knowledge or willingness to obtain within 6 months from hire.
• Six months experience in a laboratory setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accession surgical pathology specimens and biopsies in the Anatomic Pathology Information System.
• Select and label correct color and number of cassette with appropriate case number.
• Register reference lab specimens in the hospital system and differentiate billing scenarios.
• Link patient medical record numbers to pathology accessions and history.
• Compile night batches for histology.
• Assist pathologist in frozen sections and staining tasks.
• Answer phone calls and route to the appropriate lab section.
• Support inventory control and cost containment for histology, gross room, and morgue.
