Job summary

Summit Pathology is seeking a Histology Lab Assistant to join a fast-paced team. You will handle clerical and technical duties to ensure timely, accurate distribution of pathology slides and interact with pathologists as needed.

The role requires at least an associate degree or higher, with preferred medical laboratory experience. Training includes embedding, microtomy, and special stains, with emphasis on safety and teamwork within the lab.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher preferred.
• One year in a medical laboratory preferred.
• Knowledge of handling chemical and biohazardous material desired.
• Basic knowledge of biology and medical terminology.
• Bachelor's degree with human anatomy/biology/chemistry courses considered.

Responsibilities

• Morning slide turn out and accurate routing of slides for pathologists; check off slides in LIS/QC.
• QC check of blocks to slides before turn out.
• Completion and turn out of IHC and special stains.
• Answering Histology phones and troubleshooting calls from pathologists.
• Accessioning tech only cases.
• Digital pathology scanning, troubleshooting, and distribution.
• Ultra reagent maintenance.
• Accurate filing of blocks and unstained slides daily.
• Proper disposal of recycled materials & trash as needed.
• Assist pathologists and histologists as needed.
• Learn embedding, microtomy, and special stains.
• Maintain safety and follow all procedures; participate in team meetings.
